Data & services

Official data from the registers, analysed and explained. One subscription gives your team the datasets it needs, the answers our analysis draws from them, and people who have done this since 1973.

The data

Each dataset is built from the official register or publication, cleaned and maintained so that it is up to date when you use it.

Patents & SPCs

Contains
The major product and preparation patents for medicines on the European market, with any related supplementary protection certificate (SPC) and paediatric extension.
Use it to
Determine the patent expiration of a drug accurately, and assess the likely duration of parallel import opportunities and the timing of generic entry.
Markets
Every EU member state plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

EU first marketing authorisations

Contains
The date and country of the first marketing authorisation in the European Union for each product.
Use it to
Exclusivity periods run from this date, so applicants for abridged licences need to know it.
Markets
EU-wide.

Product licences

Contains
Product licences granted by the national regulators: company, product, active ingredients, legal category and dates.
Use it to
Assess product opportunities and check who holds what.
Markets
The UK (MHRA) register and European national registers.

Parallel import licences

Contains
Licences and importers under national parallel importation schemes.
Use it to
Assess the status of, and opportunities in, parallel trade.
Markets
The UK scheme and European national schemes.

Prices

Contains
Published national list prices of medicines at presentation level, from the official price lists.
Use it to
Sourcing and pricing decisions, market by market.
Markets
European markets.

NHS prescribing data

Contains
Every medicine prescribed in the community and used in hospitals in England: quantities, prescription items and value at list price, by molecule, presentation and product, over rolling twelve months and calendar and financial years, with change on the prior year, latest price per unit, brand share and hospital share.
Use it to
Size UK demand in depth: how much of a product the NHS uses, where (community or hospital), who supplies it, and how volume and price are moving. Where the prices dataset compares list prices across Europe, this one shows what is actually used in the UK and its value.
Markets
England (NHS community prescribing and hospital use).

Analysis, not just records

Because the datasets sit together, MPA can work across them: patents with licences, exclusivity dates with demand and prices. Our analysis turns that into answers to the commercial questions clients bring us.

  • Loss-of-exclusivity horizons

Which products open up in the markets you care about, and when, across a portfolio rather than one search at a time.

  • Opportunity and competition

Where demand, protection and the number of licence holders point to an opening, and where the field is already crowded.

  • Position over time

How a product or portfolio stands as patents lapse, extensions are granted, licences change and prices move.

Since 1973

Expert support, included

MPA has been in this business since 1973, and we lend that experience to every subscription: insightful, commercially practical guidance on what the data means for your product, your market and your decision. It is part of the service, at no extra charge.

  • The patent landscape around a product: which patents and SPCs actually matter, and in which countries
  • How extensions, litigation and corrections move the dates on the register
  • What a register entry, a licence or a published price actually means for your enquiry
  • Horizon views of a portfolio and deeper research on a product or market, as part of working with us

The platform

Fast, accurate and simple to use. Search by substance, product, company or reference number across every dataset you subscribe to, or work through a whole list of products in one go. Access is by named user, with datasets and countries set for each company, and all traffic encrypted. Nothing to install.

Every result is a record like the one shown: the dates that matter for one product in one country, each with the reference that lets you check the original register entry.
